The circus of Kenyan cricket continues as court halts elections

The circus in Cricket Kenya administration continues unabated, this following the High Court decision to halt the Cricket Kenya (CK) Elections and Annual General Meeting (AGM) amid a legal dispute over Cricket Kenya’s treasurer’s suspension.

Cricket Kenya had  planned to hold its elective Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, April 30, but the High Court on Tuesday, April 29, issued orders barring the federation from proceeding with the AGM. The order followed a case filed by the former Cricket Kenya’s federation treasurer, Kalpesh Solanki, who is challenging his removal from office.

The High Court issued an interim order halting the  elections of Cricket Kenya officials.

In the order issued, the court also barred the federation from conducting its Annual General Meeting (AGM) or initiating any related proceedings, including disciplinary actions against the claimant, Kalpesh Solanki. The interim orders, the court said, will remain in place until a substantive judgment is delivered on May 6, 2025.

The ruling came in response to a petition filed by Solanki, a former Treasurer of Cricket Kenya, who challenged his suspension from the board.

In addition to halting the AGM, the High Court further barred Cricket Kenya from convening any meetings related to the ongoing dispute or initiating any disciplinary actions targeting Solanki.

The ongoing legal battle has thrown Cricket Kenya’s leadership into turmoil, raising concerns over governance, accountability, and the stability of the national cricket body just months before the start of key regional and international competitions.
