Jammu, India (05-10-2024): Toyam Hyderabad clinched their maiden win of the season, defeating Southern Superstars by 5 runs via the DLS method in a rain-affected match at the Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu.
After being sent in to bat, Toyam Hyderabad’s openers, George Worker and Chadwick Walton, provided a solid start, putting together a 69-run partnership. Walton top-scored with 40 from 29 balls, while Worker contributed 28 from 26 deliveries. Shaun Marsh chipped in with 27 off 25 balls, and Rikki Clarke added a steady 25 from 29 balls. In the closing moments, Bipul Sharma’s unbeaten 10 from just 3 balls gave Toyam Hyderabad a final total of 143/7.
Southern Superstars’ bowlers put in a commendable effort, with Pawan Negi (2/11) and Jeevan Mendis (2/26) taking two wickets each. Chaturanga de Silva also managed to claim a wicket.
Chasing a revised target of 144, Southern Superstars stumbled early, reduced to 30/2 within the first 3.2 overs. Martin Guptill (14 from 11 balls) and Shreevats Goswami (7 from 5 balls) couldn’t provide a strong foundation. Hamilton Masakadza’s quick 17 from 7 balls offered hope, but the innings struggled for momentum. Pawan Negi remained unbeaten on 19 off 18 balls, while Jesal Karia contributed 28 from 30 balls. At 98/6 after 14 overs, rain halted the match, and Toyam Hyderabad were declared winners under the DLS method.
Toyam Hyderabad’s bowling attack shone, with Bipul Sharma (2/13) and Shivakant Shukla (2/17) taking two wickets apiece. Nuwan Pradeep and Rikki Clarke each picked up a wicket to help seal the win.
