The Kenyan representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup Nairobi United will be eyeing for the scalp of Tunisian side Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the CAF Confederations Cup return leg match scheduled for Sunday, 26 October, 2025 away in Tunis, Tunisia.
Boosted by their historic first leg 2-0 win in Nairobi last Sunday, the Kenyan FA Cup winners will look to upset the Tunisian side which they rose against all odds to upset in their first leg match in the two-legged preliminary round that will propel Naibois into the CAF Confederations cup group stages in their very first attempt.
The FKF Premier League newbies are competing in their maiden CAF Confederation Cup after lifting the 2024/25 Mozzart Bet Cup while still in the National Super League (NSL).
Sunday’s 2-0 win over Tunisia’s Étoile Sportive du Sahel in the CAF Confederation Cup first leg the Kenyan side has insisted that it was not only a statement victory but also a huge morale boost as they prepare for the return fixture in Tunis.
“It wasn’t easy playing against a quality side like Étoile, especially with Alphonse (Omija) in the defence. But we stayed disciplined, worked as a team, and got the result we needed,” Nairobi United captain Brian Omondi noted.
Omondi noted that NaiBois are happy with their two-goal cushion and the team remain focused and cautious ahead of Sunday’s second leg set for at the Stade Olympique de Sousse in Tunisia.
“We already have a 2-0 home advantage, but we can’t relax. We’ll go there cautiously, but we’re also aiming to score again, one or two goals would seal it for us. Only God knows what the final result will be, but we’ll give it our all, he said.
The team is bolstered by the unwavering support they have been receiving from the club patron Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja who has supported the club through the Sakaja Johnson Foundation.
The FKF Cup champions have largely viewed as the underdogs in the competition but have risen to stun opponents and build their confidence in the campaign. They are ultimately headliners who defied all odds as they shocked the country by lifting the domestic cup as National Super League champions, becoming the second lower-division side in 18 years following Sofapaka in 2007.
Étoile Du Sahel have employed the services of Harambee Stars defender Alphonse Omija who joined the Tunisian club this year following an impressive outing in the CHAN competition in Nairobi.
